Colleen Julie Fowler Mims, age 64, passed away on April 18, 2017 in Tacoma, Washington. She was born in New Westminster B.C., Canada on March 6, 1953 to Larue and Lamarr Fowler and later raised and schooled in Tacoma, Washington. She graduated in 1971 from Stadium High School where she met the love of her life and future husband, Gary Mims. Their first date was on May 17, 1968 at the UPS Field House to attend the Yardbirds concert featuring a young Eric Clapton. Gary and Colleen married on July 17, 1971 at the First Presbyterian Church in Tacoma.
She enjoyed 21 years as a Physical Therapist Assistant before her retirement which then allowed her to pursue her passions and talents in sewing, quilting, music, travel, and volunteer work with animals and young children.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Gary Mims; her son, Justin Mims (Nicole); her sister, Trudeen; and grandchildren, Milo and Mason.
A celebration of her life will be held on May 5, 2017 at 1:00 pm. at New Tacoma Cemetery’s Evergreen Chapel, University Place, WA.
