Surrounded by family, Richard Lawrence Landon (Dick) peacefully passed away to join his bride, Frances, in heaven on December 19, 2017. His laugh, kind heart, and zest for life was contagious. In the community, Dick was not only known for being a trusted Realtor, but dedicated to community service. Dick was a past Sir Boss of the Daffodilians enjoying weekend festivals marching in parades and building the yearly Daffodil float for University Place. He was a founding member of the University Place Kiwanis Club and took great joy in raising scholarship money for graduating seniors in high school. Each summer he would sell both fireworks and hotdogs for the scholarship funds even dragging his grandchildren along for the cause. He loved playing and watching all sports. Some days you could even find 3 tv’s with a different game on and him scrambling between rooms for scores. For football, the Seahawks were his favorite team and he was an early ticket holder starting in 1977.
Dick was born in Tacoma, WA October 11, 1930, graduated from Stadium high school in 1949 and received a Bachelors of Arts from the College of Puget Sound (University of Puget Sound) in 1952. He served as Captain in the National Guard while completing his Master’s Degree at Oregon State University. He graduated with a Master’s of Science in Agriculture and Food Technology in 1957 and started working at Nalley’s.
Richard was married to his wife Frances for over 60 years. He is survived by his brother Jerry, 3 children Debbie, Karen, Larry and 7 grandchildren.
We will miss his amazing pancakes, his love for trick or treating on Halloween, a solitaire game always in progress on the kitchen table, his love of coleslaw where he could eat it everyday and his skill at ‘doctoring’ up a pot of top ramen.
