Obituary of Barbara Nelson
Barbara Lord Nelson of Tacoma, WA passed away on March 14, 2016 at St. Joseph Hospital in Tacoma, WA at the age of 88 years old. She was mother of 5 boys whom she adored and dedicated her life to.
Among her many activities, she was a well known talk show host for over 25 years, known as “Brunch with Barb” on KKMO and KLAY Radio. She loved music and often you could hear her singing at Mandarin Antique and Piano Store where she worked part time. Tacoma was her love and she was a member of the Lakewood Historical Society and Tacoma Country Club. She was a staunch Republican and member of the Lakewood Republican’s Women’s Club.
Barbara was born in Haines City, FL. and graduated from Stetson University in Deland, FL. She later married a pilot who was stationed at McCord Air Force Base. Throughout her husband’s assignments, she traveled the Orient and loved to organize tours in Asia as well as the underground city of Seattle. Later in life she found the love of her life and life partner, Richard Swank.
She is preceded in death by Richard Swank, and her oldest son, Michael Nelson. She is survived by four sons, Patrick (yong hui), Britt (Patricia), Brant, and Rolland Jr. (Angie) Nelson; and eight grandchildren, Courtney, McKenzie, Christine, Patrick Jr., Jonathan, Jeffrey, Brendon, Riley; and daughter-in-law, Sandi Nelson.
