Catherine DeHaven

Obituary of Catherine DeHaven

On April 26th, 2017, our beloved Rena lost her battle with cancer and was taken from us to be with God.

Born Catherine Crawford Brown on July 3rd, 1934, in Ayr, Scotland, she was known to all who knew her as Rena. She married Donald DeHaven, an American stationed at Prestwick AFB in Scotland.  They had one daughter Carolynn (Lynn).  The family, including Rena's mother, Susan Brown, moved to the States in 1963.  Their final move, in 1967 brought them to Tacoma, WA where they remained.

Rena worked for JC Penney's at the Tacoma Mall for 23 years, retiring in 1995.  She was a member of the Tacoma British Wives Club and the Daughters of Scotia. She was very proud of her Scottish heritage and had many stories to tell of growing up in Scotland. She was a very talented knitter and loved to knit for her family and herself. She loved spending time with her family, especially her three grandsons.  She loved people and made many friends throughout her life.  Rena was a very caring and giving person, her door was always open for anyone to come in and have a cup of tea.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and by those whose lives she touched.  She will live in our hearts forever.

Rena is survived by her husband, Donald DeHaven; daughter, Carolynn (Lynn) Budrick; son-in-law, Thomas Budrick; grandsons, Anthony Budrick (Sarah) and Connor Budrick (Samantha); and great grandson, Hunter Budrick.  She is preceded in death by her beloved grandson, Ryan Budrick; infant granddaughter, Caitlin Budrick; and infant great grandson, Owen Budrick.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday May 4th, at 1:00 at the Evergreen Chapel at New Tacoma Cemetery in University Place, WA.  A reception will follow.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Franciscan Hospice House.
