Obituary of Noriko Snyder
Noriko (Tsuiki) Snyder passed away on July 5, 2017 at home in Puyallup, WA surrounded by her family, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was 88 years old at the time of her death. Noriko was born on October 5, 1928 the 5th child of Umetaro and Hisa Tsuiki in MotoHakone-Mura, Japan.
She grew up on Lake Hakone in Japan which was near Mt. Fuji and a lovely resort town. Noriko loved to swim and hike. In 1950, she met and fell in love with her husband William (Bill) C. Snyder whom she married on March 14, 1951. Soon after their marriage Bill was stationed back stateside where Noriko (Nora) became a United States citizen.
Noriko was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her family was always her first priority. She supported Bill as they moved many times, as he pursued his military career in the Army Combat Engineers. She enjoyed their two, 3-year tours in Germany; they were also stationed at Ft. Rucker, AL, Ft Benning, GA, and Ft. Lewis, WA where Bill eventually retired in 1968. They bought a home in Lakewood, WA were Noriko (Nora) kept a beautiful yard.
After Bill retired he continued to work as a Land Surveyor in the Puyallup area and Noriko (Nora) enjoyed being a grandma and great-grandma. Nora loved to walk around their neighborhood in Lakewood and had many neighborhood friends. They lived in Lakewood until Bill’s declining health made it necessary to sell their home and move to Puyallup with their son Roy and daughter-in law Donna. Noriko and Bill were inseparable until Bill’s death on May 16, 2013.
She is survived by her only child, Roy Snyder his wife Donna, and their children Heather Snyder, Matthew Snyder (Amber), and Devin Snyder (Daron); two great-grandsons, Corbin Redmond (Snyder) and Chadwick Pitts; her two sisters, Akiko and Kyoko; and many nieces and nephews in Japan; and extended family in California and Las Vegas. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill; granddaughter, Katherine (Katie); her parents; and two brothers and a sister in Japan.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at New Tacoma Cemetery, 9221 Chambers Creek Rd W, University Place, WA. In lieu of flowers, a donation to St. Franciscan Hospice would be appreciated.
