Obituary of David Stepp
Dave passed peacefully in his sleep at his home in Spanaway after an extended illness. Like the true Marine he was, he fought hard to overcome Cancer, but in the end lost this final battle. Through it all he never complained nor lost his sense of humor or loving spirit. Even on the worst of days, he cracked jokes and made others laugh and feel good about themselves. He was especially fond of young children, playing peek-a-boo and talking gibberish with infants in a way that made you realize he was truly a kid at heart.
Dave was born in Phoenix Arizona and grew up in the Tacoma area. He graduated from Lakes High School in 1972. He was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corp, serving as a specially trained dog handler for drug and explosives detection. Afterward, he operated his own security business in Tacoma. He later worked the flight line for United Airlines both in Denver and Tacoma, where he made many dear friends with whom he never lost contact.
Dave was an avid golfer, fisherman, and sports fan (including Seahawks and fantasy football) and as a youth was a regular at Cheney Stadium for Tacoma Tigers games. He loved his poker buddies and his cigars. He hosted many family and friends barbeques on his back porch. Dave was a Master Mason at the Corinthian Lodge #38 of Puyallup WA.
He is survived by sisters Debra A. Dailey (Dennis) of Tacoma S, WA, and Vickie L. Carrington (Jerry) of Tacoma WA, nieces Nichole Smith, Deanna Dailey (Bryon Taylor), and Denise Messner, all of Tacoma WA, nephew Charles Carrington (Jennifer) of Roy, WA, and numerous great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Irene Stepp (Farr) and his father, Elvis Guy Stepp, of Tacoma WA.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 26th, 2018, at 11:00 am at New Tacoma Cemetery’s Chambers Creek Chapel, located at 9212, Chambers Creek Rd W., University Place WA. Friends are all welcome. A Celebration of Life follows at the Puyallup Masonic Lodge, located at 1005 W. Pioneer Ave., Puyallup, WA.
