Obituary of Richard Foran
“Our guardian star lost all his glow the day that I lost you.” —The Fleetwoods—‘Mr. Blue’, 1959.
A lifelong resident of Tacoma’s North End, Richard “Dick” Foran passed away peacefully on the eve of February 24, 2018, following a two-week bout with pneumonia.
He leaves behind his beloved daughters, Lynette and Nina; son, Brian; and his wife, Pat.
Growing up in the 40’s and 50’s within walking distance of Jefferson Park, Dick enjoyed playing baseball with a wide circle of friends. Born November 14, 1938 to Edward and Magda Foran, Dick had an older brother James with whom he eventually shared ownership of a gravel pit on the Tacoma Tide Flats.
In 1957, Dick graduated from Stadium High School where he was a star pitcher for the Stadium Tigers and key player in leading them to victories in City and Capital League Baseball titles.
Following a two-year stint in the army at Ft. Huachuca, Arizona, Dick married the former Carolyn Doyle on January 12, 1962, and began a 25-year career with Food Sales and Service as a Warehouse Manager.
Dick and the former Pat Stromberg married on March 1, 1996, and enjoyed over 27 years of togetherness, facing challenges that only served to strengthen their incredible bond.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 2, 2018 at New Tacoma Cemetery’s Evergreen Chapel, 9221 Chambers Creek Rd W, University Place, WA. Coffee/Cookie Reception to follow.
